Firebrand Beech

Fire-Charred Handreels for Backpack Fishing
To produce this spectacular finish, Beech blanks are turned to shape, then burned with a torch as they rotate on the lathe. Similar to shou sugi ban (Japanese flame-finishing), this technique chars the surface of the wood, fading from pitch black at the base of the handle to a light toasting across the rest of the reel, enhancing the natural patterns in the grain. Difficult and time consuming, this technique requires our highest degree of craftsmanship to get right.
As part of the Kairos Release, a limited release of only 10 Firebrand Beech Handreels are available, each individually numbered and engraved.
Each kit comes with 30 yards of 6-lb copolymer fishing line, a lead-free tackle kit, and a wooden hand reel with 3.8 cubic inches of built-in storage space.
